License plates are the official identifier of a vehicle, which is why their production is regulated by law. In this article, we will take a closer look at when license plates are required, how they are produced, and what technologies are used.
When is the production of license plates necessary?
The process of manufacturing license plates may be required in several cases:
- During vehicle registration, the owner receives a Certificate of Registration and license plates. If you previously placed your old plates in storage, you will receive them back. If their condition is unsatisfactory, we recommend updating your license plates.
- When purchasing license plates via the Diia app, you will receive an electronic Certificate of Registration. Based on this document, we will produce your license plates.
- In case of loss or damage — if the plate has been stolen, damaged, or has become unreadable, a new license plate must be produced. It will be identical to the one issued during registration at the Service Center.
- For special transport — certain categories of vehicles (taxis, diplomatic vehicles, military and government cars) require special license plates.
How are license plates produced?
The production of license plates is a process that requires precision, compliance with standards, and the use of modern technologies.
The process of producing duplicates strictly follows the same procedure as for original plates and involves certified materials and technologies.

- In some cases — an application requesting a duplicate plate, signed and stamped if necessary.

In what cases is it necessary to restore license plates?
According to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (Article 121-3, Part 1) and the Law of Ukraine "On Road Traffic" (Article 37), the operation of a vehicle is prohibited in the following cases:
- absence of a license plate;
- with a license plate that does not meet the established standards (damage due to an accident, corrosion or mechanical impact, fading of paint and reflective coating);
- with a license plate mounted in an unapproved location;
- with a license plate that is upside down, unlit, or covered by other objects;
- with a dirty license plate if the dirt makes it impossible to clearly identify the characters from a distance of 20 meters;
- when other actions are taken with the intention of deliberately hiding the license plate.

How to restore license plates?
The procedure for restoring license plates includes the following steps:
- Contact a license plate manufacturing company by placing an order in the office, online through the website, or by phone.
- Provide the Vehicle Registration Certificate and an identity document.
- Receive the restored license plates.
